En juillet 2006 disparaissait Syd Barrett, guitariste, chanteur et membre fondateur du groupe «Pink Floyd», s’en suit alors une série de reportages dans les médias, et c’est à cette occasion que, comme beaucoup d’autres, Benoît Grimalt en apprend plus sur le musicien que par les deux titres phares de son groupe qui passent sur les ondes depuis 40 ans.
Intrigué par le personnage et charmé par sa musique, il décide alors de partir à Cambridge, son lieu de retraite anticipé (il avait 29 ans).
A la lecture de Do you know Syd Barrett? nous n’apprendrons rien de plus que l’on ne sait déjà sur le musicien, les photographies de Benoît Grimalt ne sont pas ici pour parfaire un travail d’enquête sur la vie ou le travail de Barrett, mais elles donnent à montrer une vision romantique de Cambridge, de l’Angleterre en guise d’hommage. Reading Do you know Syd Barrett? , we will learn nothing more about the musician than what we already know. Benoît Grimalt’s photographs are not meant to investigate further into Barrett’s life and work, but they draw a romantic vision of Cambridge and of England, in tribute to the artist.
